“Mary Lou and her crew did a fantastic rehab of my home. My friends affectionately used to call it “The Hobbit House” because of all the moss on the roof and mold on the siding. The windows rattled in the slightest breeze, my back porch was moldy and sagging and overall I had a sinking feeling when I drove up to my little house.
Now I love my home. The color we chose for the siding is clean and chic, Cape Cod Gray. Mary Lou suggested design upgrades to improve the overall curb appeal so we added vinyl shingle siding to the front to complement the overall look. At the last minute I asked for a front porch portico and her team was able to build exactly what was proportional and appropriate for my home from just my drawings.
Mary Lou spent considerable time helping me pick new windows, French doors, and storm doors to match my style and the area homes. They are wrapped in bright white trim that makes them pop. The roof is no exception. After peeling back the layers we determined I had to have the whole roof torn off and new plywood installed. Mary Lou worked with me on the pricing and within two days I had a gleaming roof — no more moss!
As I sit in my new sunroom with brand-new airy skylights and reflect on this huge upgrade, I have to say I am so pleased I made the decision to go with Better Homes Siding & Improvements. There were no hidden costs and no surprises. People walk by my house now and reassure me it’s the freshest in the neighborhood.

“The task to install the new vinyl siding included new utility vents, new attic vents, and trim that was aluminum wrapped around the window frames, door frames, fascia boards, and rake boards. There were sections of the house where there was some water damage to the wood behind the old siding as well as damage to some rake boards. All these damaged areas were repaired in a manner that more than met my expectations. Wood repairs to the custom-made bay windows were better than the original construction. The new seamless rain gutters were installed in half a day at the end of this project. I was impressed with Mary Lou.”

This was a total makeover of a fixer-upper to a beautiful modern look of a home. The owner of the company, Mary Lou Marino, met with us 4 times to finalize the project before we signed the contract. She was there through all the stages of the project, which took 6 weeks as planned. Her crew was amazing! We ran into an issue with some concrete retaining a wall that was discovered after the demolition of the front porch and we had two days to decide how to revise the original design. The leading contractor was very knowledgeable and gave us an excellent idea which made the front of the house very grand, balanced, and welcoming. “I retained Mary Lou (and her company Better Homes) just over 10 years ago to replace my roof, my gutters, and almost all of the windows in my house. I had been having a lot of problems with leaks in the roof and drafts from the windows.
Her company came in, was extremely professional and neat, and did a great job all around. Mine was the third house in our family that she had done major work for, and we have all been extremely satisfied. This past April my bay window must have broken a seal and became foggy. I called Mary Lou, who got back to me right away and even though it took six months for the window to be replaced, the delays were mainly related to what we have been hearing all around with COVID-related construction issues regarding materials, transportation, etc. She kept on it and communicated regularly as to what was going on. My window was replaced right before Thanksgiving in time for the holiday and winter and looks phenomenal.
I would hire them again (although knock on wood hopefully I won’t have to!)”
